The Q6 e-tron sits perfectly between the smaller Q4 e-tron and the larger Q8 e-tron. It’s similar in size to the gasoline-powered Q5, which is arguably the most popular Audi available. It features a head-turning design and Audi’s new digital daytime running lights, with six dynamic light signatures to choose from. There are also several wheel options available, and buyers will need to choose wisely, as wheel size can impact overall driving range.
The Q6 and the high-performance SQ6 are powered by a 94.4 kWh battery pack featuring a new chemistry composition that delivers a 20-percent improvement in energy density. With the 19-inch wheel option, the Q6 e-tron has an estimated driving range of up to 494 km. The upcoming Sportback version increases that number to 513 km. If you opt for the Q6 e-tron with 20-inch wheels, the estimated range drops slightly to 475 km and 491 km, respectively.
The SQ6 e-tron sacrifices a small amount of range compared to the Q6 e-tron—offering an estimated range of up to 443 km—but what it loses in range it makes up for in power.
The Audi SQ6 e-tron is a quick SUV with a 0–100 km/h time of just 4.3 seconds when launch control is enabled. This performance is made possible by its 509-hp dual-motor e-quattro powertrain. The Q6 e-tron remains impressively powerful as well, producing up to 456 hp when launch control is activated. It too comes equipped with standard e-quattro all-wheel drive for confidence during long Canadian winters.
Fortunately, Canadian winters won’t be as inconvenient as in the past when it comes to charging, thanks to the Q6 e-tron’s new 800-volt electric architecture. This system reduces heat generated during charging and allows for faster energy transfer. By increasing voltage, the system requires lower amperage, resulting in quicker charging for longer periods while generating less heat.
How fast are the charging times? The Q6 e-tron can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 20 minutes at a maximum rate of up to 270 kW. You’ll also never need to remember which side the charging port is on, as the vehicle features ports on both sides.
While waiting for the battery to recharge, drivers can enjoy the technologically advanced interior of the Q6 e-tron. The Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus is the centrepiece of the cabin. In front of the driver is an 11.9-inch display, while a 14.5-inch MMI display sits to the right. Both screens are integrated beneath a single curved piece of glass. An optional 10.9-inch passenger display is also available, featuring an active privacy mode so it doesn’t distract the driver.
The Q6 e-tron also introduces Audi’s new Android Automotive operating system. It includes the latest Audi Connect services, such as an enhanced e-tron route planner. Popular apps like YouTube can be embedded directly into the system without requiring a smartphone connection. Audi has also expanded its voice-control functionality, with the system now capable of recognizing up to 800 voice commands.
The Audi Q6 e-tron starts at $80,445 CAD, while the SQ6 e-tron starts at $95,595. Further details and test drives are available now at OpenRoad Audi Boundary in Burnaby, B.C.
