The all-new 2026 RAV4 marks the sixth generation of Toyota’s best-selling compact SUV, introducing a host of major upgrades across design, performance, electrification, and technology. The model will be offered exclusively with electrified powertrains—available as either a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) or a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)—and features three distinct styling directions: Core, Rugged, and Sport.

The Core consists of the LE, XLE, and Limited trims. These are the mainstream options, with sleek paint-matched grilles and Toyota’s signature hammerhead front end. Wide overfenders with black cladding accentuate the 17- to 20-inch wheel options.

The Rugged style is exclusive to the popular Woodland trim, which is now a standalone grade in the RAV4 lineup. It has an adventurous design, with half an inch of added ride height courtesy of standard all-terrain tires. In Canada, the Woodland trim will be available with the HEV powertrain.

The Sport style is led by the all-new RAV4 GR SPORT, along with the XSE and SE trims. The GR SPORT offers motorsport-inspired design, unique wheels, GR-tuned suspension, enhanced steering, and aggressive spoilers. It will only be available in Plug-in Hybrid form, while the XSE and SE trims will be available with both PHEV and HEV powertrains.

Speaking of which, the Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid powertrains are more powerful than before.

Starting with the Hybrid, it’s Toyota’s fifth-generation system. Powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, it boasts improvements to the trans axle, power control unit, battery, and other components, all of which contribute to its enhanced motor output of 236 combined system net horsepower on all models (up from 219 combined system net horsepower previously). InCanada, all HEV models will have standard AWD.

As for the PHEV, it combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with two electric motors and a high-capacity traction battery. Power is bumped to 320 combined system net horsepower, up 18 horsepower over the outgoing system. All PHEV models will have standard AWD. The PHEV model also increases its all-electric driving range to a manufacturer-estimated 80 kilometres. The PHEV XSE Technology Package will feature DC fast charging, capable of charging from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes.

The interior of the 2026 Toyota RAV4 focuses on functionality and comfort. Seating surfaces range from fabric to SofTex®, with available seating colours spanning from black to the newly available Mineral on the Woodland. On the XSE and GR SPORT grades, perforated BRIN•NAUB® microsuede and SofTex-trimmed seating with colourful accents add a dynamic feel. The RAV4GR SPORT model adds GR logos to the front headrests and steering wheel, while paddle shifters and aluminum sport pedals enhance its sporty appeal.

The 2026 RAV4 is also equipped with Arene, an all-new software platform created by Woven by Toyota. The introduction of Arene is Toyota’s first step toward fully software-defined vehicles. As well, the RAV4 debuts the newest version of the Toyota Multimedia system, enabled by Arene. Paired with a touchscreen display, the system offers standard wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, plus simultaneous dual Bluetooth® phone connectivity. The new system updates the user experience with a home button that remains visible regardless of whether it’s operating in the native system, Apple CarPlay, or Android Auto.

Production of the 2026 Toyota RAV4 is expected to begin later in 2025, with pricing to be announced closer to its release date.
