Hadani Ditmars

In addition to three decades of cultural and political reportage for print and TV, Hadani is the author of Dancing in the No-Fly Zone: A Woman’s Journey Through Iraq and a soon-to-be-published travelogue of ancient sites, Between Two Rivers. “My late, great mother was one of the strongest women I knew,” she says. “She raised me as a single parent in the 1970s, after my father took off to a hippie commune in the Kootenays. We lived at SFU student housing on top of Burnaby Mountain, and she kept us afloat by lifeguarding at the university swimming pool in between her classes. Now that she’s gone, I’m the one that has to be strong, still buoyed by memories of her radiant smile.”
